At a glance

The short version

What we liked

  • The deepest, most granular reporting in the category
  • Slightly cheaper entry price than Xero
  • Files GST and connects to InvoiceNow via Peppol
  • Familiar to many accountants who already run Intuit
  • Large app marketplace and integrations

Where it falls short

  • Users are capped by plan tier, not unlimited
  • Busier interface with more upsell prompts
  • Value tails off once you add seats
  • Payroll is an add-on in SG and MY

Bottom line QuickBooks is the pick when reporting depth matters or your accountant already lives in Intuit. For a calmer daily workflow and unlimited users, Xero edges it; for the lowest price, Zoho Books does. See the full Xero vs QuickBooks comparison.

The verdict

What QuickBooks Online is, and who it is for

QuickBooks Online is Intuit’s cloud accounting platform and the biggest name in the category worldwide. For a Singapore or Malaysia SME it does everything the job needs: invoicing, bills, bank reconciliation, GST and a genuinely deep set of reports. Where it pulls ahead is exactly there, in reporting: more built-in report types and finer control than most rivals out of the box.

On the Essentials plan the documented workflow covers a month of invoicing, a reconciliation and a GST F5, and it connects to InvoiceNow through a Peppol access point. This is our research based read; we will confirm the detail with a hands-on test and update the review. The interface is capable but busier than Xero, with more menus and more prompts nudging you toward higher tiers. That, plus users being capped by plan, is what keeps it a notch below Xero for us on daily feel.

If you or your accountant already work in QuickBooks, or you want to slice the numbers finely, it is an easy recommendation. If you want the calmest possible workflow and unlimited users, pay a little more for Xero.

Scorecard

Why the score lands at 8.1

On our five weighted criteria, QuickBooks’ high mark is features and reporting at 9.0, the best in the category, because the depth and range of reports are unmatched for an SME tool. Compliance is strong at 8.6 for handling GST and InvoiceNow cleanly.

The marks that hold it at 8.1 are value at 7.6 and ease of use at 7.8. Value slips because users are capped by tier, so costs climb as your team grows, where Xero includes everyone. Ease of use slips because the interface is busier. Nothing here is a weakness; it simply lands just behind Xero overall.

Pricing

QuickBooks Online plans in Singapore

Prices are per month before 9 percent GST. Users are capped by plan; add-ons such as payroll are billed separately.

PlanPriceUsers & scopeBest for
Simple Start S$30/mo 1 user, core books and GSTSolo operators and freelancers
EssentialsOur pick S$45/mo 3 users, bills and multi-currencySmall businesses with a bookkeeper
Plus S$60/mo 5 users, projects and stockFirms needing inventory or project costing

Most small teams land on Essentials for the extra users and bill management. Watch the user caps: if you are adding several staff, price this against Xero’s unlimited-user plans before you commit.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask us

Is QuickBooks or Xero better for a small business?
Both file GST and connect to InvoiceNow. QuickBooks has deeper reporting and a slightly cheaper entry; Xero has the calmer workflow and unlimited users. Our full Xero vs QuickBooks comparison calls it by use case.
How much does QuickBooks Online cost in Singapore?
It runs from about S$30 a month for Simple Start to S$60 a month for Plus, before GST. Essentials sits in the middle at about S$45 a month. Users are capped by plan, so factor that in if you have a team.
Does QuickBooks Online support IRAS InvoiceNow?
Yes. It connects to the InvoiceNow network through a Peppol access point, so you can meet the requirement. See our InvoiceNow guide.
Can I switch from QuickBooks to Xero, or the other way?
Yes, in both directions. You can move opening balances, contacts and outstanding invoices, and there are migration tools and partners that automate much of it. Doing it at the start of a GST quarter keeps your first return clean.

I assessed QuickBooks Online from its documentation, Singapore pricing and public feature information in July 2026, not yet a hands-on test, so this carries a research based score. When I run it hands-on, the review is updated and re-dated. This review is edited to our editorial policy. The score and every observation are my own.
