Zoho Books is the accounting module of Zoho’s wider business suite. On its own it is a capable cloud ledger: invoicing, bills, bank reconciliation, GST and reporting, at a price that undercuts almost everything else that files a proper GST return. Its real advantage shows when it is not on its own, when your CRM, inventory and email already run on Zoho and the books simply plug into the same data.

On the Standard plan the documented workflow covers a month of invoicing, a bank reconciliation and a GST F5. The automation is a genuine strength: recurring invoices, payment reminders and workflow rules are deeper here than on pricier rivals. The trade-off is density. There is more on screen and more configuration than Xero, which is the calmer tool for someone who just wants the books done. For a cost-conscious SME, or any business already inside Zoho, this is the value play in the category. If you want the smoothest possible daily workflow and your bookkeeper already works in Xero, pay the difference for Xero instead.

Zoho Books’ standout is value at 9.2: nothing else that files GST and connects to InvoiceNow costs this little, and the free tier for very small revenue is real. Ease of use is the softer mark at 8.0, because the interface asks more of you upfront than Xero does.

Compliance scores well at 8.7 for handling GST and InvoiceNow cleanly, and features and reporting land at 8.4 thanks to strong automation. The overall settles at 8.3, just behind Xero, with price the main reason a value-focused buyer might put it first.

Most businesses filing GST will want Standard. The free tier is genuinely usable for a micro business, which almost nothing else in the category offers. Step up to Professional only if you need inventory or project billing.
